School Updates
Yearbook
Cover contest - 4th grader Mia Stegeman’s tiger and paw design will be used
Opt out kids will be contacted and not included if they confirm that they don’t want to be in the yearbook
Next year we’ll send a flyer in back to school folder so we have info from the get go, plus prepay/order so we know numbers
Skillman will create a flyer that will also ask for donations to cover additional students
Budget
Sell them for $20 each with $1 to Skillman and $3.80 for the pot to cover for students that can’t purchase
Will purchase 520 copies for all students, $7800 full cost

Book Vending Machine
A success!!
Students get books for positive office referrals, monthly perfect attendance with no tardies, bell ringers, working off a read plan or academic improvement, big acts of kindness, 200% or more of AR goal, recommendations from Dream Team tutors, Walkathon prizes, etc.
Machine has been fIlled three times already
Funding - estimate that it will cost about $5000-6000 per year to keep the machine filled
PTO will look at year-end budgeting to make decisions on how to fund next year (books from Scholastic bucks vs a dollar amount or combination of)
PTO usually makes $4000-6000 in Scholastic bucks each year from book fairs
PTO will purchase a $500 gift card to this spring’s BOGO fair, which will provide about $1000 worth of books for the machine

We also provide $25 gift cards to each teacher for classroom books, so about $600 total; currently have about $4000 in Scholastic bucks
We should communicate to parents about supporting the book fairs because they provide books for the library and vending machine

Tiger Trek Walk-a-thon Recap
About $30,500 raised through individual and business donations
Thank you notes for business and prize donors will be written
Order new thank you cards
Kona Ice party as a recognition for the students hard work and as a “good job” on CMAS celebration
Last year was Mid-May (16th) and around $1320 after discount
Work with front office to decide when to host this year
Need to give thought to bracelets next year, as well as how we award prizes (classes of 19 kids will never have the same lap totals as classes of 26)
Reading Bingo
Had more than 100 students return their bingo cards!
Monica will deliver prizes next week
Pencils and bookmarks for all participants
All names entered into drawing for vending machine book
Book Fair - April 29-May 3
Visit with Mr. Deakin about set up and preparing the Media Center

Mac’n, Antojitos, Brown Butter, Kona Ice are confirmed
Monica working on hot dog cart; if they can’t come then we can have Mac’n do hot dogs too
Music
Decided to save money on DJ and use our new speakers
Little Kids Rock is supposed to play if the weather is OK, so there will be entertainment besides our speakers
Ask Mr. Deal and/or Mr. Deakin for playlist
Monica looking into more speakers (plus inflatable screen and projector for movie nights)

$461 raised last time
Monthly restaurant nights is the goal
Rollerland will only do for one entity at the school so staying with Dream Team

Need new hose, nozzles, watering cans, flowers/starter plants (containers by the front office)

Postponed until the May meeting to allow us time to find candidates for all positions

Send a survey to PTO newsletter list asking about day time meetings, childcare and include our next social

Make a plan for media center renovations, including creating a renovation committee with Mr. Deakin and touring other schools
