Meeting Minutes
School Update - Shirley Woods
Conferences were a great success, like always teachers were here late and worked hard.
Box meals were a hit, so teachers can grab and go
Parent newsletter and Communications – we need to point out everything that the PTO does – name it right after it happens.
PTO was thanked in the newsletter for providing dinner
PTO will be providing Coffee cart for American Education week
Pumpkin Patch field trip for Kindergarten (buses were a hit!)
Halloween Party donation - $25 per class
Continually talking about Volunteers – we need volunteers for our book fair – November 14th through 18th - same as education week
Stage 4 of the playground: Nature Center
We need new picnic tables, improved walkways, etc. – this would be a 3rd outdoor classroom
Working on getting a design for the nature center – we will put this on our website to advertise what we are raising money for during the Walkathon fundraiser
This will help with engagement with the garden – to get more involvement from parents with the garden; this will be a need in the next few months
We could utilize the PTO for communications about the needs around the garden
Growing Project has offered to teach a few classes this spring!
Ms. Musante could be a great resource for ideas for garden lessons
Open Board Roles Update – Molly
Board roles will be posted on the PTO website – we would like interested candidates to attend the November meeting so we can secure a vote no later than the December meeting
Open roles include: Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Community Engagement/Member at Large
Additionally, there are a lot of opportunity to join committees – so please spread the word and it would be great to get some dedicated faces helping out on a regular basis with the committees.
Teacher Hospitality update - Molly
Provided Panera boxed meals for dinner for teachers last Wednesday during conferences. Hopefully everyone felt fed and satisfied at the end of a long day!
Friday is $5 Pizza night at Papa Murphy’s, we should do this again – we will do this November 19th before Thanksgiving break
We have 4 really great bus drivers and traffic control person – let’s do a card + gift card from PTO as a thank you (Corrine will spearhead this, thank you!) - November 19th before Fall break - it might be 8 depending on if its different drivers in the morning or the afternoon

We sold 174 garments, well beating the 50 piece target

We will be looking for 3 volunteers per classroom for 2nd thru 5th, we would like 4 per class for Kinder-1st
2nd book fair will be 1st week of May during teacher appreciation week
Walkathon Date Selection - Group Discussion
End of March worked well last year
March 30th is the date chosen – Shirley is double checking one holiday to ensure we can
We want to have the Walkathon come before the Family fun run – could the family fun run be combined with the Summer Blast Off?
Family Fun Run: We need to re-establish the Family fun run based on challenges with securing permits and security from the City – Invite Brad Deal to a future meeting to help him with ideas to make this a special, free event to bring the community together that is around wellness.
Health kids club won’t give us the grant anymore – so PTO will step up to fund the costs of t-shirts

Put a call out for a volunteer who is a grant writer or has experience applying for grants
Updating the PTO website: Melissa and Erin will be exploring moving platforms to a more mobile friendly option (Wordpress or something similar)
