Meeting Minutes
School Update
Read Across America book night was lovely! First bigger event since Covid and families were really happy and grateful. PTO should have a table at all events. Need to find or purchase a new banner.
Tavelli, Bennett, Lesher and Boltz were celebrated at the Board of Education Meeting based on the Connections Survey (Social/Emotional Learning composite data), which showed our data looked great.
The monitoring report shows that we are doing great things for our diverse student population; we take SEL seriously and support our students by blending SEL with our academics.
MAC Bus registration is open. It is free to attend and you can pick the individual dates your students attend. Will include reading, math, writing, tech/stem activities (coding), plus crafts and recess.
Can take 25-30 kids a day and is run by teachers and paras from 9-11:30 am
4th grade meeting for Eco Week is April 11th. The Urban Air fundraiser will directly benefit next year’s Eco Week.
Battle of the Books was so fun! The kids did a wonderful job and the top teams are going on to districts at FCHS in May.
After-school clubs (chess, art, robotics) are running and students are really enjoying them.
Walk-a-thon Update
We are at $20K (individual donations plus business sponsorships) one week out
Shirts will be done on Tuesday and distributed to teachers on Wednesday
Bracelets for laps are here
Fort Fun activity cards will be given to each student, plus many great prizes for donations and $20 gift cards for boy/girl lap winners in each grade
We’d like to have Brittany take photos; Christine will figure out if/how we can make this happen
**Due to snow on the field, the event is was postponed until Monday, April 3**
Directory
PTO-sponsored
Will include in weekly notes and send a flyer home to encourage participants for the 2022-2023 school year
Will create a 23-24 directory in the fall
Melissa and Heather will create based on the opt-in info provided in a Google Form (due April 15 for this year)
Summer Blast Off
MiFis from Mr. Deakin for food trucks to take credit cards; we’ll just need to set them up
4 trucks and 2 desserts - Charlotte’s Lil Kitchen, Project Pizza, Antojitos, hot dog cart, Kona Ice and pies
Cream the Dream Team - we’ll need someone to manage the night of but Dream Team should have all the supplies
Advertise events in Thursday note and maybe a flyer - cash for Cream the Dream Team, Food Truck menus, etc
Board Candidates + April Vote
We have candidates for all five officer positions and two committee chair positions
Since none of the candidates are opposing positions, we’ll create a ballot and will vote for the slate of officers at the April meeting
Red Ribbon Week
A Tavelli parent proposed the idea for next October
Kids pledge to not do drugs, could even include a helicopter on the field
Heather will send contact info to Christine to put the parent in touch with SRO
Teacher Appreciation Planning
Corinne will get started and form a committee
Base it off last year’s events and add new things
Book Fair Planning
We’d like to get back into themes and doing extra “events” like astrology night, donuts, coffee cart, etc.
An evening shopping time was discussed, but we’d need to have a staff member present to make it happen
Monica has already talked to Scholastic about the May fair and we will form a small committee to see if we can do anything else small this spring and will plan to do something more detailed at the next fall fair
Monica’s daughter Annabella is volunteering during the fair to help with registers so people are trained
Yearbook
Looked into TreeRing yearbooks
Parents would order directly so we do not have to purchase a minimum
Could include your own pictures to personalize
Would work with Skillman to get school photos plus students would take candid photos to include
Could create a yearbook committee with parent and teacher support, or each class could do their own pages
Bacon does a yearbook, so Christine will ask how they do it
$20ish each, and could also be a fundraiser and/or we could create a scholarship fund for kids that couldn’t otherwise have one
Other
Field Trips - Monica will remind teachers that we have money for it and we encourage parents to let their student’s teacher know that they would like to see them happen
Possible field trip locations: CSU Engineering 3D printer and CSU Spur campus in Denver
5th grade celebration - early stages of planning by the teachers
Dog station needs to be moved; Christine will follow up with appropriate district personnel
Start including Resources in the PTO newsletter for sports teams, Safe Routes to School, etc.
OtterCares - Innovation Station (coding/stem equipment) - Jessica will take the lead on submitting this grant request
Social Media - Christine will talk to the district, perhaps to have someone come talk to PTO about how we can start an account
Considering Instagram first as a collaborative effort between the school and PTO
Want to be mindful of commenting and keep it a positive space
